The Mandalay

The house was built in 1912 by Mr. Laurence Don Edwards and is one of a set of two.         He named the homes Lugano and Como, after the Lakes of Lugano and Como on the border of Switzerland and Italy. Like the lakes were mirror images so too are Lugano and Como.

Fond of the fact that Melbourne can experience the four seasons in one day, and Italian culture the master bedroom was decorated with the Four Seasons in the Wunderlich pressed-metal.(Four Cameos of cupid like figures representing each season.)

The views from bay windows were and still are something to behold, city to the south and Dandenongs to the east.

When the houses were completed the two brothers then sent word to England and awaited their respective brides.

The house was renamed Mandalay in 1961by Mr Archibald Jackson. He gave Melbourne Brides and Grooms the opportunity to live out there fantasies, a night of elegance and culinary excellence.Mandalay has been receiving brides ever since.

The name "Mandalay" comes from the great love story "Rebecca" and the grand mansion (Mandalay) to which the heroine arrives.

On your wedding day we at Mandalay aim to make the Bride the "Lady of the Mansion". An open fire is a welcoming sight during the winter blues, an excellent backdrop to many good times to be had in our Sherries room. The charm and elegant befits any occasion requiring prestige and quality in every detail.

When at Mandalay, Mandalay is Exclusively yours.
